Visiting Party Organisers Competition Report - Friday 14th October
Every year Silverdale Golf Club runs a special event for the organisers of any society groups who come to play our great course. The organiser and a guest of their choice are invited to play in this competition free of charge with complimentary coffee and bacon rolls on arrival.
After a pretty shocking few weeks of weather to kick start the winter season, it was great to see some sunshine for this great event. There were 42 players who all had a great day regardless of the standard of golf played…Although the winning team did have quite a remarkable score! Results are listed below.

2nd - B. Sharrock & M. Haird From Blue Anchor Golf Society: 43 Pts - Winning A Voucher For 3 Free Green Fees At Silverdale Golf Club
3rd - P. McAdam & P. Moore: 42 Pts - Winning A Voucher For 2 Free Green Fees At Silverdale Golf Club
Sarah Cousins’ Lancashire Ladies Success
This year one of Silverdale Golf Club’s lady members has been selected to play for Lancashire’s A squad. Having last year played for the B squad, Sarah Cousins’ golf had impressed the county team selectors enough to get her a place in the team for the northern county match week at St Annes Old Links. The winning County would then go on to play in the National finals held at Thorndon Park Golf Club, Essex.
Lancashire got off to a good start of the week beating Cumbria 7.5 – 1.5 on the Monday. Tuesday’s fixture saw Lancashire beat Northumberland 6 – 3. A steady 6.5 – 2.5 win against Cheshire on Wednesday saw Lancashire climb right up there on the leaderboard, Sarah got her first win for the county in this game! After an 8 – 1 win against Durham on Thursday Lancashire were tied top of the table with their biggest rivals, Yorkshire, who they were to play on the final day. Lancashire then went on to beat Yorkshire 7 - 5 on the Friday in great style with the deciding match going to the 18th hole! Sarah described the week as “the best golfing week of my career so far” and cannot wait for the National Finals week. If you are interested in going down to watch some superb talent or support Lancashire please feel free to do so, the date for the National Finals is 12th – 16th September 2011.
Well done to Sarah for doing such a great job in representing Silverdale Golf Club and good luck for the rest of the season!
