Junior Golf

Junior members begin as early as 6 and continue to aged 18. The club’s new PGA Pro Chris Cousins will be teaching the juniors on Saturday mornings pretty well throughout the year starting from early July; using the Young Masters’ Golf (YMG) programmes. The older juniors who are in their late teens have been very successful in many national competitions run by the British Heart Foundation playing latterly in the finals at The Belfry.

The 2007 new junior team won the first round at Knott End Golf Course and proceeded to the next round at Eaton GC in Cheshire.  They were successfull at Eaton and played in the final at The Belfry but unfortunately did not win the 1st prize.  But well done Josh, Matthew and Samantha we are proud of you.

The photo shows the winning team with Ken Briggs one of the club’s junior helpers at Eaton GC.

Unfortunately there will be know Brtish Heart Foundation competition in 2008, so some 5500 junior golfers nationally will be disappointed as will our junior team.

A junior gets a hole-in-one.

junior-hole-in-one.JPGSaturday 2nd July 2007, Jonty Moekell scored a hole in one on the 14th ,  The Oaks.  He was playing with friends and supervised by his father when the incredible happened.  An excellent straight 5 iron shot reached the green , with two hops and a roll it was in the hole.  Jonty was overjoyed as was his father.  He is the first junior in the club to score a hole-in-one.  The photo is courtesy of the Westmorland Gazette
