Captains' team vs President's team report

When the day started, it was all about the Captains’ drive-ins. During registration, Mike Roberts was taking £1 from the competitors to guess the length of each. Before too long we were on the first tee watching our new Captain, Tony Spedding and new Lady Captain, Margaret Roberts having their drives. The Captain’s drive was measured at 181 yards and the Lady Captain’s at 107 yards (she would have been further but was unlucky to clip “that” tree). The lucky winners of the prizes (litre bottles of whisky) were Steve Abbott and Geoff Farrow. It was reported that we had raised £103 for the Captains’ charity (British Heart Foundation).

Despite the overnight rain, the course had dried out nicely and played well. Unfortunately 3 greens were deemed too wet to play (1st, 12th & 18th) and we played winter greens on those. We played a 4BBB stableford and scoring was really good. The best score of the day was 49 points and this was recorded by none other than the team of the Captain and Lady Captain!

When we got in Linda and Mark greeted us with some welcome hot food. Everyone seemed to enjoy their pie, chips and mushy peas. The 100 Club draw took place – congratulations to all the lucky winners!

Eventually the scores were totted up it was obvious that the Captain’s team had defeated the President’s team by 621 points to 599 points. Well played Mr. Captain and your team!

The day ended with some short speeches by our Vice Captain, Tony Smith followed by Mr. President, Ian Rigg and Mr. Captain, Tony Spedding. Our Lady Captain, Margaret Roberts then invited Carol Whalley to remind everyone about the Ladies’ coffee morning to support the Ukraine Crisis Fund. It is £5 entry on Monday 14th March in our clubhouse from 10-12.

A good day was had by all.
