Seniors 4-club Challenge

38 Seniors played in our 4-club challenge today on a well-prepared course – we couldn’t believe how good the greens were after all the recent heavy rain. They all set off with 3 clubs and a putter, but were they the correct 3?

When we came in we were treated to a tot of whisky by Billy Evans who had a hole-in-one last Thursday. Thank-you Billy – it went down a treat!

We had a nearest the pin on the 18th and this was won by Brian Gibbs who was 1.65 metres away (we think with a 7-iron). For ages it looked liked Tony Pidgeon was 3rd with his 38 points, but wouldn’t you know it, the very last group had a 39 pts. This was Rob Sloman who had 39 points with a back 9 of 18 points. 2nd place was won by Paul Edmondson with 39 points with a back 9 of 20 points. I should point out that Paul played off a handicap of 6 today and to score 39 points he shot a gross 73 with only 3 clubs and a putter!

Our winner today was Gordon Pilkington who shot a magnificent 40 points. Gordon’s clubs of choice were driver, 3-wood, 8-iron and of course his putter. Who needs 14 clubs anyway? One of the photos shows that the gin was indeed “Gordon’s”. With the 38 who played and a few contributions from people who couldn’t play, we raised £205 (so far) for the greenkeepers Xmas box. Well done the Seniors!

Our next fun competition is planned for the 14th of December (our Christmas comp.). We have all sorts planned e.g. 3 prizes, free entry, mulligans for wearing a Christmas jumper (or hat, or both!), mince pies, etc. It will be a roll-up, but we need you to record that you will attend on BRS - should be a good day!
