Silverdale Golf Club are hosting the St. John's Hospice Charity Day
Three local business women are hoping their charity golf day at Silverdale Golf Club next week will
raise more than £10,000 towards their Cambodia trek in aid of St John’s Hospice.
Lynne Wright. Director of Atkinson’s Fish and Chips, Morecambe, Gill Haigh, Managing Director of
Cumbria Tourism, and Sue McGraw CEO of St John’s Hospice covering North Lancashire and South
Lakes, are all taking part in the gruelling charity trek in Cambodia this November.
Supported by Golf Lake District, a local business organising golfing holidays in Cumbria and the North
East, and Silverdale Golf Club, the charity event, generously sponsored by Wright and Lord Solicitors,
and taking place on Friday 20 May, will host 20 corporate and leisure teams, all of whom have
contributed to the cause in order to enjoy a slice of the action.
Even the holes have sponsors, with generous support from: Borg 5; Fine & Country; Driving Edge;
Barking Mad; Nic's Beauty; Matthews Benjamin; IB Hunt; MB Digital; Moore & Smalley;
Morecambe Eats; Whitwell Catering Supplies; RJT Joinery; KT Blinds, Trafalgar Projects Ltd,
Silverdale Golf Club and Golf Lake District.
As well as having a great day out on the course players will be vying to win top prizes including the
chance to play at Windermere, Brampton and Silverdale Golf Clubs.
Over dinner, which will include table favours provided by Grasmere Gingerbread, players and

Commenting, Sue McGraw said: “Wonderful events like this make a big difference to help ensure
that St John’s continues to be there for patients, families and carers during one of the most difficult
times they will face.
Lynne Wright added: “St John’s provides hope, care and support for people with life-shortening
illness, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Throughout the pandemic, this care has never faltered.
However, the Hospice’s ability to fundraise stopped overnight. Events like today’s were cancelled,
the Hospice’s charity shops had to close and, overnight, 70% of the funding needed to run this vital
local service ceased.
Gill Haigh commented: “We are really looking forward to welcoming sponsors, players, family and
friends to Silverdale Golf Course. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity and support of so
many brilliant businesses. We hope everyone will have a fantastic day as well as raising money to
support our fundraising and help give us the extra boost we need to send us off to Cambodia with an
extra spring in our steps.”
